The high-voltage capacitor in your microwave is required for the oven’s basic operation. Knowing how to test a microwave capacitor can save you money on a professional repair, but it isn’t always the best option, depending on a variety of factors.
If your microwave isn’t heating you must discharge the capacitor. The capacitor of your microwave is placed near the diode. The position of your capacitor isn’t fixed, however. Locate it by checking the guide.

Circuit Diagram Microwave Capacitor Wiring Diagram
Your microwave oven is a surprisingly dangerous device. You’re probably aware that a microwave consumes a lot of electricity and can even trip your circuit breakers if it’s connected to a weak circuit with other high-demand appliances like the vacuum running at the same time.
There is a high voltage capacitor in your microwave. The capacitor serves to step up the power to the magnetron. The standard 120V (or 230 in some cases) isn’t sufficient to drive the magnetron which needs at least 1000V. The wiring diagram of the capacitor of your microwave is shown below:

Why Does a Microwave Need a Capacitor
The driving power required for the magnetron of a microwave oven is very high. Hence a high-voltage capacitor is connected to the magnetron that serves to step the power-up.
A magnetron generates microwave energy in the microwave oven. The microwave energy is distributed into a metal cavity where the food is cooked via a waveguide. The waves are absorbed by the food and excite the water molecules. This heat is then distributed throughout the food, cooking it.
How Do You Hook up a Microwave Capacitor
Perform the following steps:
Step-01: Disconnect the power supply.
Step-02: Remove the eight screws that hold the microwave’s wood-patterned cover to the frame. The first four screws are on each side of the microwave’s front.
Step-03: Remove the additional four screws securing the wood-paneled case to the microwave frame.
Step-04: With your hands on either side of the case, gently slide the case back until it is completely separated from the microwave frame.
Step-05: Place your hands on either side of the case and gently slide it back until you feel it completely separate from the microwave. Lift the case slowly upward until it is free of the microwave.
Step-06: Lift the case slowly upward until it is free of the microwave. Now connect the low voltage terminal of your capacitor to the magnetron and the high voltage terminal to the high voltage terminal of your transformer. Also, secure a connection between the diode and the capacitor.
How is a Magnetron Wired
The magnetron is a high-powered vacuum tube that functions as a self-excited microwave oscillator. Crossed electron and magnetic fields are used in the magnetron to provide the high-power output necessary in radar equipment. The wiring diagram of a magnetron is given below:

The F side of the magnetron is directly connected to the thin and small center winding of the transformer. The magnetron’s FA side is connected to the high voltage capacitor’s FA side via the rectifying diode, which is then grounded. The other side of the capacitor is connected to the transformer’s secondary, high voltage winding.
How Does a Microwave Oven Circuit Work
The working principle of a microwave oven circuit is illustrated below.
- The 120V power frequency voltage is transferred to the rectifier via the electric control system, and the rectifier converts it to 4000V direct voltage.
- The voltage is then transferred to the microwave generator, which begins working to transfer microwave energy to the heating chamber for heating food via the waveguide tube.
- At the same time, the electric control system activated the cooling system to cool the working rectifier and the microwave generator, preventing the oven from overheating.
- If a problem with the cooling system causes the temperature to rise too high, the control system will switch off the power automatically to protect the microwave generator from harm caused by the high temperature.

Which circuit is used in a microwave oven
A high-voltage rectifying circuit is used in a microwave oven. Aside from the magnetron, the circuit consists of merely a high voltage capacitor, a high voltage diode, and a magnetic leakage transformer.
The electricity charged at the capacitor’s positive half-circle is a series linked with the positive phase of the winding voltage, resulting in a doubling voltage.
What Type of Capacitor Is Used in Microwave Oven
Multi-layer ceramic capacitors are utilized as surface mount devices in microwave printed wiring boards, as well as DC filtering in hybrid integrated circuits. High capacitance in a small volume is made possible via multilayer technology. Popular multilayer capacitor sizes for microwave operation are 0402, 0603, and 0805.
Conclusion
A magnetron and its power supply circuit are the basic components of a microwave generator. The microwave generator is the brain of the microwave oven. The quality of a microwave oven is primarily determined by the microwave generator.
