In general, A PS4 uses between 165 watts and 310 watts. In the US, this costs an average of about 2 cents to 5 cents per hour in electricity.

However, the answer to this question is not that simple to answer. The watts used by a PS4 greatly depend on its model, operating modes, the functions it does, the accessories it is connected to, etc. Therefore, we need an in-depth analysis to visualize how the power consumption values of a PS4 vary.

The power used by a PlayStation 4 mostly depends on various operating modes and the type of TV connected to it. Just saying that they all use around the same amount of power is not enough.

PS4 Wattage Based on Modes

The power consumption rate given in different modes are mostly average values and can vary depending on situations.

Switched Off Mode

When the PS4 is switched off, only the LED lamp stays operational. The console requires around 0.1 to 0.45 watts per hour.

Standby Mode

When the PS4 is off but plugged in or on standby mode, it uses around 0.47 watts. But if you have a PS VR connected to it, the wattage increases to 0.62 watts.

Idle Wattage

In idle mode, the PS4 uses between 83.9 watts and 92.5 watts. If other accessories are connected in this mode, the number of watts used will increase. For example, when a Dualshock controller is charging while the PS4 is idle on the dashboard, the power consumption will increase up to 90.1 watts.

Streaming Wattage

A PS4 uses between 98.4 watts to 100 watts while streaming. Streaming YouTube requires 98.4 watts while streaming Netflix uses up to 99.9 watts. 

Gaming Wattage

A PS4 in gaming mode uses between 99.8 watts and 144 watts. However, game quality affects the number of watts used. A game that takes low processing power requires around 100 watts and lower. In contrast, a gaming PS4 with a PS VR consumes a lot of power up to 144 watts.

PlayStation 4 Classic

Menu Mode

In menu mode, the original version of PS4consumes better 80 and 90 watts per hour.

Functions of Blue-Ray and Video Apps

Playing films and videos of blue-ray or the VidZone music video service will require around 100 watts in a PS4 classic.

Gaming

For gaming, the wattage varies between 140 and 150 watts per hour.

PlayStation 4 Pro

Menu Mode

The power consumption rate here is 75 watts, just a bit lesser than the classic PlayStation 4.

Functions of Blue-Ray and Video Apps

The value of power required for this function is around 87 watts per hour.

Gaming

Gaming requires around 165 watts per hour, which is quite above the average value of the classic PS4.

PlayStation 4 Slim

Menu Mode

This version of PS4 consumes less power than any other version. In menu mode, it only consumes around 50 watts per hour.

Blue-Ray and Video Apps Functions

The power consumption value for these operations is around 55 watts for the slim version

Gaming

Gaming mode requires up to 80 watts per hour, which is quite low than the other versions.
