MMF stands for magnetomotive force is a component of the equation of magnetic flux regarding magnetic circuits. It is analogous to electromotive force and it drives the magnetic flux through a magnetic circuit.

MMF or magnetomotive force talks about the magnetic flux in a magnetic circuit. It is a component of magnetic circuit analysis and can be used wherever magnetic circuit technologies are concerned, such as sound technology. 

What is Magnetomotive Force

Magnetomotive force is the factor responsible for setting up the magnetic flux in a magnetic circuit. It is a quantity that is analogous to electromotive force or EMF. In an electric circuit, the current flows due to electromotive force. Whereas, the magnetomotive force drives the magnetic flux in a magnetic circuit.

Unit Used for MMF

The SI unit for measuring magnetomotive force is Ampere-turns (AT). It simply describes a single amp conveyed in a single-turn loop in a vacuum. Another unit that scientists often use to observe MMF is the CGS unit Gilbert (G). 

Strength of MMF

The strength of the MMF can be defined as the product of the current around coil turns and the total number of turns in the coil. It can be expressed as F = NI. According to the work law, we can also define MMF as the work done to move a unit magnetic pole (1weber) once around the magnetic circuit.

Magnetic Potential

Magnetomotive force is also known as magnetic potential. It is the property of a material giving rise to the magnetic field. Moreover, we can see the magnetomotive force as the product of the magnetic flux and the magnetic reluctance. 

The magnetic field offers reluctance that works in opposition to setting up the magnetic flux on it. Therefore, the magnetomotive force regarding reluctance and magnetic flux is given as F = ΦR, where, R is the reluctance & Φ is the magnetic flux.

Magnetic Field Intensity

When the electrical circuit is concerned with magnetic field intensity and the length of the substance, magnetomotive force helps. The magnetic field strength is defined as the force acting on the unit pole placed on a magnetic field.  The magnetomotive force field intensity is expressed as F = HI, where H is the magnetic field strength, and l is the length of the substance.
